Maybe does not hold up good enough anymore but it is entertaining enough for me to rewatch once in a while. Overall I see it as a classic comedy of its time. Other might find it too silly and it is a lesser experience if you don't know the sources that the parody elements aim at (Not valid for most of us as many are timeless classics or well known). There are a few negatives: It reaches not the levels of the best parodies but is still really good. This added a lot for me as all fells familiar. You can clearly identify the sources or movies they want to spoof / make fun of.

Other than that the movie looks really good. I say we got a great performance by genre standards. There is a small cameo of Martin Sheen and Rowan Atkinson has some scenes but I say he is wasted. His performance is just too entertaining to not be praised. A hidden star is Jerry Haleva as Saddam Hussein (Yes, that one). Valeria Golino resumes her role as Ramada Hayman and has a history with new character Michelle Huddleston played by Brenda Bakke. He has a bigger role and is so enjoyable to watch. Lloyd Bridges is also back and now President of the USA. Again he has the Leslie Nielsen power of being totally serious in the most hilarious situations. Cast: Charlie Sheen returns as Topper Harley and nails his role. I will repeat that this can also be a point of criticism as many jokes are not deep and often the complaint is heard that it has too much silliness. In comparison to the prequel they went up to eleven. It has a good mixture of humor and the characters / actors enhance this experience. The main parody of the movie is Rambo but there are countless other sources for parody like for example Apocalypse Now, Basic Instinct, Lady and the Tramp, American Gladiators, Terminator 2, commercials, Disney and even a side blow to violent movies in general.

It is so fun to watch, full of crazy ideas and it takes itself not serious if it can make a great joke. Humor: This is why I like the sequel better. The story is a good vehicle for the humor and it delivers well. This is a start to a hilarious funny and entertaining adventure. However things do not go as planned and the people in charge try to get Topper Harley back into action who has retired to a small village in Thailand.

Story: During the second Iraq war a rescue mission is started to free captured soldiers. While the first is a parody of Top Gun this one is a parody of Rambo. It is again a comedy or better said parody / spoof movie. I freely admit that this can also be what other viewers can hate or dislike with passion and strangely I can understand that. The movie has more silly, over the top and hilarious humor but the good kind. It is again a comedy or I am in the minority that liked it better than the prequel. In this hilarious Hot Shots sequel, former renegade pilot Topper Harley (Charlie Sheen) is once again recruited for a secret mission. Tons of fun for sure.I am in the minority that liked it better than the prequel. If they did, it's a film worth revisiting. But both films are very funny, and this is a film that fans of the first should check out if they already haven't. I really enjoyed this film, and though it's equally good as the original, I preferred this one.
The cast hold the film together and they're all amusing in their own right. This is a fairly well made comedy with tons of amusing references to other films. Hot Shots! Part Deux is a fun spoof comedy that brings on good laughs, and though it's not perfect, it's far better than the recent spoof films such as Date Movie and Epic Movie.

Obviously the cast play a series of inept characters that are caricatures of every action film character. At least this film is a fine end to the real spoof genre. As far as a spoof film is concerned, Hot Shots! Part Deux is one of the last good spoof films to come out, as the Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer spoof films are some of the worst ever made. Most of the cast of the first return, but in different roles. If you've enjoyed the first, then you're most likely going to enjoy this sequel. The film is a good spoof of the action genre, and it's fairly underrated. Unlike the first Hot Shots! Which parodied only Top gun, Hot Shots! Part Deux parodies the action genre in general. As far as spoof films are concerned, the Hot Shot films are some of the best along with Airplane! Though not as great as Airplane! There is plenty to enjoy about these films. Sequel to Hot Shots! is just as funny as the first film.
